Boko Haram attack: Military imposes curfew on Maiduguri

The military authorities on Thursday slammed a 24-hour curfew on Maiduguri as the death toll in the Boko Haram’s Wednesday   botched effort to overrun the Borno State capital emerged.

Among the dead were three soldiers, four female suicide bombers and six members of the state youth vigilance group.

Twenty nine other people lost their lives in Ba’ale, one of the   villages used by the insurgents to launch   the attack on the city.

A member of the   vigilance group, who gave the figure   said the six   vigilantes, soldiers and female bombers died near the Giwa Barracks.

According to him, soldiers manning a checkpoint close to the barracks had sighted four women who looked distressed and tried to help them when explosives strewn to their bodies exploded.

He said: “ Apart from the soldiers and bombers, our members, who were near the checkpoint were killed.   Some of them were injured and are presently on   hospital admission     as a result of the bombs detonated by these useless wives of Boko Haram that came to attack us yesterday (Wednesday).

“Our men and the soldiers thought they were women escaping Boko Haram captivity but they took them by surprise and killed six of our active members.

‘‘But we will not allow the incident to demoralise us. We will not relent until we crush all of   them.’’

The spokesman for the vigilance group, Jubrin Gunda, who also spoke with our correspondent,   claimed that six female bombers were deployed for the Maiduguri attack.

He   added that a top member of the militant Islamist sect was captured by soldiers in Dumsa, another village used to launch the attack.

Gunda said, “ The insurgents deployed six female suicide bombers for the attack. The death on the part of the insurgents was high.

“The military, assisted by our group, was able to repel the insurgents. As we talk now,   I am on my way to Dumsa for the movement of one of the commanders of the sect     that was arrested to a detention camp.”

A resident of Ba’ale, Abba Shettima, said the insurgents killed 29 persons and injured about 30 others   while moving towards Maiduguri.

Shettima added that they   torched 20 houses and five shops on their way to the state capital.

The insurgents were engaged by the military while   sneaking through Ba’ale into Maiduguri.

Shettima told journalists that when the attackers were passing through the village, some residents took to their heels while the unlucky ones were killed.

According to him,   the villagers who   returned to their homes on Thursday morning participated in Muslim prayer conducted for the dead in front of the residence of the village head. He said the victims were buried thereafter in accordance with Islamic law.

Another villager,   said 10 corpses were picked on the streets and 19 others picked from the bushes.

The villager, who gave his name simply as Idi, said, “Our people were confused as   many had to flee into the bushes. We returned today (Thursday) and saw 10 dead bodies on the streets and when we combed the bushes, we saw 19 corpses.”

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a text message to some journalists, “We did not lose any soldier in Maiduguri.”

Before the text message, Usman had said that the 24-hour curfew on   Maiduguri was a measure to   track all   insurgents believed to have sneaked into the town during the attack.

Giving assurance that the curfew   would be lifted as soon as the situation improved, he said the military engaged the attackers with   sophisticated weapons.

The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations,   7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Col. Tukur Gusau, had earlier issued a statement which read, “In view of the recent development within Maiduguri metropolis a 24-hour curfew is hearby imposed on the city. Activists sue Patience Jonathan over First Ladies’ Meeting

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has been asked to restrain Dame Patience Jonathan from holding an emergency meeting of African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) in Abuja today, May 15.

The plaintiffs, who include Nana Module Onwodi, Ekemma Ugborough Arisa, Louisa Ono Eikhomun and Deborah Oboh, said the emergency meeting called by Dame Jonathan was called in "bad faith" as it is aimed at scuttling any chance of Aisha Buhari becoming the president of AFLPM.

Other defendants in the matter include Juliet Mene, Juliet Pearce, Sonia Adolf and Kate Duru.

The case could not go on Wednesday when it was called because the procedure for proof of service had not been completed.

Accordingly, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, adjourned the matter to enable Barrister Mohammed Ahmed file an affidavit of service and attach the Proof of Service to the said affidavit averring that the service had been effected on the defendant, Dame Jonathan.

"You should have filed an affidavit of service and annexed the Proof of Service. The document does not speak for itself. Normally, if it is service on a party directly, you file the copy endorsed by the recipient party. But if it's service by substituted means, you file an affidavit to say pursuant to the order of substituted means, we have effected service. I will adjourn to enable you file the affidavit of service, Justice Baba-Yusuf ruled.

The plaintiffs had filed a writ of summons for themselves and on behalf of Concerned Women for Peace and Development, seeking to stop the emergency meeting called by Jonathan aimed at picking a new president of AFLPM from among the other African first ladies to succeed her.

They explained that the defendant stepped into the shoes of president of AFLPM after Turai Yar'Adua stepped down following the death of her husband and then president, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.

The plaintiffs averted that the tenure of office of President of the Mission is three years, which is expected to elapse in July 2015 and, therefore, any attempt for the defendant to convene a meeting to elect a new president would amount to short-changing Mrs. Buhari who ought to get a chance by May 29, 2015 to participate and even contest the office of president in July 2015.

They averred that "the defendant/respondent's intention to hold an election on May 2015 is inimical to the progress and development of the country" as "not only shall we be affected as individuals but the entire nation will be affected as our position in the committee of African nation's will be relegated".

No son of Aregbesola was arrested for money laundering

It has become pertinent to inform Nigerians and others generally that there is no iota of truth in the story being peddled around by some misguided elements claiming that a son of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, Kabir Aregbesola was arrested at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos today Tuesday May 12, 2015 with a huge sum of money in foreign currencies.

We have discovered the the authors of the wicked and malicious lie are doggedly pursuing their agenda by engaging in an aggressive push for the falsehood to reach a larger population especially using the social media.

The younger Aregbesola neither traveled anywhere nor had any encounter with any security personnel today. It is obvious the evil minds at work are out to drag an innocent young man's name into this dirt in order to get at his father.

Obviously, part of the game plans of those behind this orchestrated lie is to whip up sentiments especially among the workers in Osun whose salaries are being delayed as part of the fallout of the national revenue crisis and demonise the governor.

Aregbesola has maintained a life of a moderate family man with a set of highly disciplined children who cannot be found wanting on issues of morals and societal values

Members of the public are therefore urged to dismiss the falsehood because it is just another handiwork of mischievous minds.

I WAS BANNED FROM NOLLYWOOD WITH GENEVIEVE, OTHERS—JOKE SILVA

Some years ago, some ‘cabals’ in the Nigerian film industry prevented some practitioners from getting jobs because of what they termed as ‘high headedness’.

The likes of Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah and some other top actors in Nollywood were not given jobs to do and this brought about the emergence of new set of faces in the industry.

But not many knew that veteran actress, Joke Silva, also received the big stick because she was one of the actors banned that time.

Speaking with Newswatch Times in an interview on why she turns down scripts from some producers, the wife of another veteran actor, Olu Jacobs said, “There are several reasons like not being available; not wanting to work on a particular script and at other times because of being blacklisted. I am one of the blacklisted ones, but they didn’t announce it. You heard it directly from me.”

Black Parents Shocked As Their Son Was Born White With Blond hair

A very Rare genetic Mutation: The black parents shocked when their son was born white with blond hair.
A black couple told of their shock and mystification when their son was born with white skin and blond hair. Francis Tshibangu admitted: ‘My first thought was “Wow, is he really mine?”.’

He and his wife Arlette already have a two-year-old boy, Seth, whose features reflect his African parentage. But it is thought that baby Daniel, now 11 weeks old, has a slight genetic mutation. He is not an albino.

Congo- born Mr Tshibangu, 28, said his ‘jaw dropped open’ when Daniel arrived at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

‘All we can say is that Daniel is our miracle and, though we are shocked by his white skin, we feel very blessed. He’s beautiful.’

His 25-year-old wife added: ‘The reaction in the operating theatre  was one of shocked silence, myself included.

‘I stared at Daniel with my eyes wide. The looks on the faces of  the doctors and nurses said it all.  Everyone was wondering why I had a white baby.

‘But as the nurse put his little pink body in my arms I bonded with him instantly. When I looked at him all I felt was love.

‘Like any mum who has just given birth, my main concern was that he was healthy, which he is.’

Mr Tshibangu added: ‘I know there will be some who say my wife has had an affair but I trust her completely and know that isn’t the case.

‘Even if she’d had an affair with  a white man, you would expect a mixed-race baby with black hair, not a white baby with soft blond hair like little Daniel.’

The couple believe Daniel could be a throwback to Arlette’s great-great-great-grandmother, who is also thought to have given birth to a white baby. But Mr Tshibangu said: ‘That was six generations ago and we don’t even know if that was true.’

He added: ‘You can see people looking at us thinking, “What are that black couple doing with that white baby?” I am sure there are a few people who think we have stolen him.

‘But to us, his skin colour isn’t important. The most important thing is that we have a healthy little boy who we love very much.’

Here’s Why You Should Never Throw Away Egg Shells

Egg’s shell is natural source of minerals and contains 90% calcium. Calcium is easily absorbed by our body because its chemical composition is almost identical to human’s teeth and bones.

If consumed in larger amounts, calcium will not only get rid of lack of calcium-symptoms, but it will also prevent osteoporosis’ development, stimulate the bone narrow in producing blood cells and help when it comes to treating high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.

Egg shell also contains iron, zinc, copper, manganese, fluorine, phosphorus, chromium and molybdenum. Therefore, many experts recommend shell eggs as a natural and very effective calcium supplement.

It is recommended to enter 1.5 to 3 grams of crushed shells a day.

Here are several ideas on how to use egg shell and what to use them for:

1. Strengthening the organism and cleansing the blood

Wash 5 egg shells, crush them good and put them in 3 liters of water. Keep this mixture in the refrigerator for 7 days before using it as a drinking water. Drink two to three glasses of this mixture a day. You can add lemon juice if you want to.

2. Thyroid gland

Take 8 egg shells, wash them good and crush them even better. Pour juice of 2 lemons over the crushed egg shells and leave in refrigerator for several days. When shell will soften, strain the liquid and mix it with 1 liter of rakia and 1 kg of honey. Let this mixture stand still for 7 days before using it. Consume one teaspoon two to four times per day after meals.

3. Gastritis, ulcer

Crush some egg shells. Pick some using the tip of the knife. This amount of egg shells will be enough for treating these diseases. Mix the crushed egg shells with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. When shells will soften, add one deciliter of hot milk. Consume this mixture 2 times a day – on an empty stomach in the morning and before bedtime in the evening.

Baby buried alive by parents is rescued after surviving 8 days

A newborn baby has been found alive after being buried for 8 days in a cemetery in the mountains of Guangxi province in southern China by his parents who were disappointed after he was born with a cleft lip.

According to Mail Online, the baby boy was miraculously discovered after a middle-aged woman identified as Lu Fenglian heard his cry while she was collecting herbs for Chinese medicine around the mountains filled with unmarked graves. She was shocked to hear the crying sounds and believing the mountain to be haunted by some evil spirits, she ran to a Buddhist temple close by for help.

A priest at the temple followed her and after listening to the sound, was convinced that it was the sound of a crying child. He immediately called in the police who dug the area and rescued the baby.

The child was buried just five centimeters below the earth surface in a cardboard box. Police also found blankets and other items of clothing inside the box. The baby was rushed to the Tian Dong County People’s Hospital where he received emergency medical treatment.

One of the nurses attending to him said that when the baby arrived at the hospital he was in a very bad condition and he had to be kept in an incubator for several days. He vomited thick black substance that doctors reported was dirt that he had been swallowing while underground.

Many believe the baby was able to survive because rainwater provided him with sufficient moisture.

The parents of the baby have been traced following the discovery, and have been revealed to be a young couple from nearby Siping Village in Ping Ma town. They are yet to be arrested but the police have made several arrest including the baby’s grandmother and three other relatives.
