14 Things Successful People Do In The Last 10 Minutes Of The Workday

"How you finish the workday is very important," says Michael Kerr, an international business speaker and author of "You Can't Be Serious! Putting Humor to Work."

Below are the 14 things successful people do in the last 10 minutes of workday.

1. They update their to-do lists.

Successful professionals always keep an eye on their ever-changing to-do lists, explains Lynn Taylor, a national workplace expert and the author of "Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant: How to Manage Childish Boss Behaviour and Thrive in Your Job." But the last 10 minutes is when they also check their final progress against that day's objectives," she says. "They revise their final list accordingly while in the moment, rather than abruptly leave and hoping they'll remember all the nuances of that day in the morning."

2. They organise their desk and desktop.

Your projects take much longer to complete when you're not organized. "Having an orderly desktop and desk will help you think more clearly and prioritize more effectively.
It'll also help you quickly find important documents when you need them," says Taylor. "File digital and hard copy documents for easier access and greater efficiency when you need them next."

3. They review what they achieved.

Taylor says in addition to focusing on what you still need to do, it's important to look back on what you've done.Kerr agrees. "Taking even one minute to review what you achieved can give you a sense of accomplishment, and on a particularly trying and busy day it can remind you that you got more done than you realized," he says. "Happiness research tells us that doing a simple routine like this, and taking the time to reflect on what you accomplished, is a key way to boost your overall level of happiness."

4. They take a moment and reflect back on the day.

Successful people not only think about the projects they've handled that day; they try to analyze when and why things went right and wrong. "Savvy professionals know that if they're not learning, they're not growing," says Taylor.

5. They vet 'urgent' communications.

You're down to the wire on your day, but the communications keep flowing; some urgent and some not — but all at the last minute. "This is when your time management skills are put to the test," says Taylor. "Successful people are able to decide what requires a response and what can wait."You want to defer long conversations that are sensitive until you and your colleague are at your best: in the morning. "Consider a response that suggests the discussion be held at a specific time the next day," she says. "Otherwise, the matter could last well into the evening when your mutual energy is low and you feel rushed. This deferral also gives you overnight to step back and think through your immediate reaction."

6. They stay focused.

"This is a classic time when your mind can drift," Taylor explains. "Typically, you're not as sharp at the end of the day." Try not to allow yourself to get distracted or caught up in non-work related activities at the very end of the day.

7. They determine their primary goals for tomorrow.

Successful people have a list of items ready for the morning, and they identify their primary objectives for the following day. "You may have two or three of them that are top of mind, but commit them to writing so you have a core foundation to work from the next morning," says Taylor. "The more you can get everything down on paper that is swirling through your mind, the more likely it is you'll be able to focus on the rest of your life with a clear head and be prepared and ready to go the following day," adds Kerr.

8. They let colleagues know how accessible they'll be between now and the morning.

The most successful people take a minute to determine how accessible they can and need to be between now and the following day, and then they communicate that to whoever needs to know. "Are you going 'completely dark' with absolutely no contact with your office via text, email, or phone? Or are certain exceptions being made?" Kerr asks. "This will change day to day, and there's not necessarily one right answer. The most important question to ask yourself is, 'What mix of contact/accessibility will allow me the greatest peace of mind during my off hours?'

9. They review their schedule for the next morning.

There's no worse way to start your day than arriving at the office and learning you have a big meeting in five minutes. "Successful people know to review their schedule and plan for the following day — and most importantly, visualize how the day will unfold," Kerr says. This will allow you to go into the next workday feeling better prepared, more confident, and less stressed.

10. They don't leave people hanging.

How terrible would you feel if you found out a co-worker waited around all night for you to send that file you promised, only to eventually realize you've already left for the day, and that file probably isn't coming? Successful people don't always accomplish everything they planned to, or respond to every email they said they would — but they do at least let others know that they weren't able to get to the task, or make the decision, or respond to their email today, and they usually provide a status update, as well.

11. They say thank you to someone.

Great workplaces are built on a foundation of gratitude and recognition. "Creating a habit around thanking someone at the end of your workday is an incredibly effective way to boost your own happiness level and allow yourself and others to leave on a high note," says Kerr.

12. They say their goodbyes.

A friendly "goodnight" is highly underestimated and requires very little effort. "It reminds your boss and team that you are a human being, not just a colleague," Taylor says. It also gives your coworkers a heads up that you're leaving for the day.

13. They leave on a positive note.

Before you head out, give yourself a psychological boost by smiling, Taylor recommends. "It will prepare you to exude a more upbeat vibe as you check out with your coworkers." Successful leaders leave a good impression at the day's end, as that's the demeanor that sticks until the next morning.

14. They actually leave.

Successful people avoid the temptation to linger. They know how important work-life balance is, so they try to leave the office at a decent hour. "Staying around for no good reason will limit your level of energy and success when you need it tomorrow," Taylor explains.

I'm perfect in love making - Yoruba Actress, Tamilore Ojo Martins

One of the new faces making waves in the Yoruba movie industry is Tamilore Ojo Martins. The delectable actress joined the industry after a stint in journalism. She left the pen-pushing profession when she could no longer combine acting and journalism anymore.

She has not regretted leaving journalism for acting, according to what she said in a recent interview. Tamilore has even produced a blockbusting film titled ‘Alapa’.

Sometimes ago, she was accused of having a romantic relationship with Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, which she denied. In this interview, she spoke on the alleged affair and other issues.

Q: What's new about you?

Tamilore is doing well in the industry, God has been good to me. He added to my library, another award last month, which is a sign of progress. Right now, I'm planning a trip to the UK, Turkey and the US for vacation and also to shoot my new movie.

Q: Talk more about your trip

Though I'm going to the US to relax and cool off my brain, I just decided to use the opportunity to shoot my movie there. I am going to Turkey for shopping.

Q: How about the movie?

It is about a lady that was used for money rituals. Any man that has anything to do with her will experience poverty, no matter how rich the person may be. The lady had to die to save her sister from also being used by the same person that used her. It is titled ‘Aida’.

Q:What prompted the storyline?

It is to teach men to stay faithful to their partners. They need to be very careful who they sleep with.

Q: Is it a true life story?

Yes, it happened in Badagry, but I don't know the man in question. He did not survive consequence.

Q: How were you able to establish your brand within few years in the industry?

I don't have any power of my own, it has been God from day one till now, I give Him all the glory.

Q: Can you take us through your journey into acting?

I joined the industry in 2007, but I left and later returned in 2010 under Laide Olobe's group.

Q: Why did you leave initially?

I left because I couldn't cope with my job then.

Q: What were you doing?

I was a journalist then with the Nigerian Tribune.

Q: Why did you leave?

Journalism is a time demanding job that requires full attention on its own, just like acting, I find it difficult then to combine both and when I Could not, I had to leave one for the other.

Q: Between both professions, which are you happier doing?

I am happy with the one I am presently doing.

Q: Why acting?

I chose acting because I have a passion for it, more so, acting is in my blood. My mum was once an actress with late Duro Ladipo's theater group.

Q: Why are you still single despite being a beautiful lady?

I don't want to talk about it please.

Q: What is your view on $ex before marriage?

$ex is a normal thing between two adults and it's biblical to have it with your loved ones before producing babies. To me, it is a thing I do with someone I love, I love it and I am very good at it. I don’t shy away from reality, I am blunt.

Q: Since it is something you are good at, can you talk more on it?

Yes, I can say I am perfect in love making, but don't forget I said I love doing it with someone I love. It is spiritual and as long as my partner wants it, I give it to him.

Q: Which means if your partner ask for a marathon love making, you won't hesitate?

Yes.

Q: How do you feel if you don't have it in a week?

Please get me right, I am not an addict, sometimes I don't have it for months, but when I want to have it, I make sure I do it wholeheartedly.

Q: But why do you love it?

I love it because it makes me feel cool and relaxed. I could as well relax without having it, but it cools the mind. What drives me crazy in the process depends on the way my man handles me. Honestly, what turns me crazy is the way my man responds to love making.

Q: So how do you know when you are in love?

I don't easily fall in love, but I know I am madly in love when do crazy things for a man.

Q: Can you talk about your rumoured romantic affair Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State?

I never dated him, he only praised me when I received an award from the state government and some journalists used the avenue to start speculating false reports.

Q: But a picture was shown with the story

It was the pictures that were taken at the award. There is nothing between us.

Franklin prays that God takes “us far away from the devil we know and the ones we don't know."

AGN NOT HOSPITAL—IBINABO TELLS ERNEST AZUZU

Some ardent fans of Nollywood were shocked recently when they saw one of the stars of yesteryears, Ernest Azuzu begging for help to treat an illness he has been battling with lately. When some took the courage to ask why, he claimed to have been neglected by his colleagues.

According to reports, Azuzu said his ailment is known to many people in Nollywood, including the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President, Ibinabo Fiberesima. He alleged that Ibinabo in particular, has refused to help him.

But after keeping silent over the matter for a long time, the sultry actress has replied the actor, telling him that he should stop denting her image on the pages of newspapers because he needs help.

She pointed out that Azuzu has not been paying his association dues and that he even refused to register for the health insurance scheme introduced by AGN.

“I have kept quiet for too long and this doesn’t mean I am a fool. I don’t go about abusing people on the pages of newspapers.

“If he is sick, he should take care of himself and stop begging on the streets and tell people what exactly is wrong with him. I am Ibinabo and AGN is a body. He should stop rubbishing my name on the pages of newspapers,” she told Tribune.

Malaak said she gave up her career in 1996 to become a full time stay-at-home mum after she met and married the actor, court papers say. She says since she gave up her career to take care of the home while his career blossomed, she deserved half the fortune he made in those years.

NASS leadership saga: APC caucus, BoT meet tomorrow

Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has disclosed that the caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as the Board of Trustees (BoT) will meet tomorrow over the leadership crisis in the National Assembly.

Al-Makura stated this yesterday in an interview with journalists in Lafia.

The governor, who described the crisis as unfortunate, expressed optimism that the meeting will resolve the differences threatening the unity of the party.

“There is nothing abnormal about what happened, it is politics because APC is a conglomerate of different interests,” he said.

“I consider what happened in the National Assembly as something natural and in spite of the bad blood that was generated during the elections we remain one family”, he added.

He assured that leaders of the party will find a lasting solution to the problem and ensure that the crisis do not split the party.

“The party caucus and BoT have been invited for a meeting which I believe is a away forward in finding lasting solution.”

On the emergence of Bukola Saraki as Senate President against the party’s choice of and Ahmed Lawan, Al-Makura said “We in APC consider Saraki and lawan as brothers, Dogara and Gbajabiamila as brothers”.

I am not the First Lady - Aisha Buhari

Our First Lady doesn't want to be referred to as The First Lady. Strange? Read the press statement...

I am not the first Lady says the wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Hajia Aisha Muhammadu Buhari. I am the wife of the President and will be addressed as such going forward. With her large smile that easily lights up a room, Mrs Buhari's sense of direction is established. Her jovial nature belies a strong personality who says what she thinks.

Speaking at the Appreciation Dinner held last night ,June 13th at the state house , mrs Buhari shared  some of the challenges experienced on the campaign trail, ensuring that she diffused a potential life threatening situation with light laughter which shows her sense of balanced perspective on the trials that come with being in the public glare. She attributed the success of the camapaign to team work and was profoundly greatful to the team , women and youth that helped vote her husband into office. She also attributed all her success and achievements to the support of the President who encouraged her to go to school even while raising 5 children where she eventually got her Master’s degree in International affairs and Strategic studies from the Nigerian Defence  Acadmy NDA
“We are celebrating our victory” she said and for every victory celebration, there is a party and a party it was indeed with beautifully and fashionably women  from every state in the nation across every class ably represented seated as peers.
Also in attendance was the wife of the Vice President Mrs  Oludolapo Osibajo, who also celebrated the women who came en-masse to vote despite challenging situations, she regaled us with a story of the egg seller who had never flown in an airplane but was flown in for the party and was bring her eggs and how security did not allow the eggs on the plane. Mrs Osibajo told us of how Mrs Buhari had continuously spoken about the Chibok girls and how meeting with the parents was a priority.
With an agenda ,giving focus to women issues, the wife  of the president wants to see more women in the legislature even from the local government level. While observing the decline of women in the legislative , a situation she hopes to help reverse; she believes empowerment from the ward level will better affect the ordinary woman on the street which was a point she highlighted in an interview with a local news station during the election campaigning.
Nicknamed ‘Gogo of Africa” by  Hajia Ramatu Tijani, the APC National women’s leader gogo means ‘Caregiver”, Mrs Aisha Buhari has been described as someone who will want to share your burden, an advocate for those treated unfairly,a strong supporter of the rights of women, jovial and gentle natured , she is prepared to share her beloved husband with the rest of the world, she quips “He belogs to the whole world and he belongs to nobody”.

The greatest obstacle to Buhari administration are APC members – Alkali

A former Special Adviser on Political Affairs to immidiate past President, Goodluck Jonathan, Prof. Rufai Alkali, has stated that the All Progressives Congress and its leaders were the major obstacles before President Muhammadu Buhari.

Alkali said that those who think the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is dead were wrong because the former ruling Party would soon bounce back.

According to him, some members of the ruling party are over-ambitious and would therefore make President Buhari serious challenges.

Alkali made this observation in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.

He was reacting to the controversy currently greeting the just concluded national Assembly leadership election.

“The greatest obstacle to the Muhammadu Buhari administration is not the PDP and other political parties, but some of the over-ambitious leaders and members of his party, the APC, who believe they have invested so much in his election and cannot wait a day longer to collect returns from their investments,” Alkali said in the statement.

He insisted that the APC was not properly prepared to govern a diverse nation like Nigeria.

He said rather than heeding to his call, he was castigated by the APC’s spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Alkali said, “I have observed with keen interest the scenario in the National Assembly that resulted in the election of Senator Bukola Saraki and Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara and other leaders of NASS.

“What attracted my attention more, though not surprising, were the incoherent and contradictory responses from the leaders of the APC, especially the faction led by the former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, who outrightly rejected the outcome of the election and without decorum blamed President Muhammadu Buhari as being responsible for the debacle in the National Assembly.

“This is indeed a clear confirmation of my earlier warning to the APC to plan more and talk less.

“Undoubtedly, things have started falling apart in the APC.”

He boasted that the National Assembly episode was just the beginning the APC travails.

“Whoever said the PDP is dead and buried should please show me the cemetery and the grave where it was buried.

“Nigerians should not forget the fact that some of the members of the PDP who joined the APC went there as a result of some circumstances but the souls and minds of most of them are still in the PDP.

“Remember, most of those who left were founding fathers and senior leaders of the PDP in their respective states and zones. This is therefore just the beginning of the beginning,” he added.

Anti-rape bill favours paedophiles like Yerima, other exploiters – Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to withhold his assent to the Sexual Offences Bill (also known as the anti-rape bill) passed by the last National Assembly.

The Sexual Offences Bill, 2015, stipulates a life imprisonment for any individual found guilty of rape or sexual intercourse with children under 11 years; 10 years for incest; 10 years for child pornography or a fine of N2 million; and 14 years for sexual abuse, among others.

But Soyinka said that a nation should not be founded on sexual exploitation of the fragile and innocent.

“President Buhari – and here I make my first imposition on his presidency – should never place his assent on such a nefarious distraction,” he said in a letter to the organizing committee of the June 12 Movement of Nigeria.

“Its implications doom the victim to afflictions that churn the stomach even to think of the human toll. Perhaps those legislators think that vaginal fistula is something thought up by arm-chair critics with nothing better to occupy their minds. No matter, let those who profess a genuine concern declare their stand on this.

“On my part, I find unacceptable any effort to build a nation on perversions that merely minister to man’s sexual appetites. This is a sordid appeasement of a minority who actually require psychiatric help.

“President Buhari should not give his assent to the Bill without amendments that address the earlier Yerima gift to the nation. It’s a trap.”

Soyinka said that in the “supposedly progressive bill, sponsored by the respected Senator Chris Anyanwu. I could not help but notice a reiteration – as if to ensure that there is no ambiguity – of the word ‘child’, near superfluously,” Mr. Soyinka said.

“Well, we understand ‘child’ as defined in most dictionaries. There is however also child as defined by the Nigerian legislature. This definition is contained in a prior Bill, sponsored, no less, by a notorious serial paedophile and cross-border sex trafficker, yet lawmaker – one Ahmed Yerima.

“Does Yerima’s Bill, gleefully assented to by his peers, not simply vitiate this latter, supposedly humane concern for the protection of the child? Again, I confess to being only a ‘bloody layman’ in such matters.

“However, reading both bills, it strikes me that all the new bill does is empower the clique of paedophiles. All you need do is ‘marry’ even a six-year old under any local laws, and do whatever you want with her. Through marriage, she is already an ‘adult’. Her ‘defiler’ is now fully protected by this law. She is not.”

The nobel laureate added: “The current bill is the ancient story of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted. End of story? Yerimah and his fellow perverts are having the last laugh,” said Mr. Soyinka.

“This latest addition of insult to social injury was tucked within a last-minute avalanche of bills that were passed at lightning speed during the tail-end of the last legislative assemblage – 47 bills in under 3 hours – surely one for the Guinness Book of Records. An accident? Or by design?

“This bill, subjected to wrong arguments, merely consolidates the reduction of female minors to sex objects. As long as you can afford a bag of rice or – as in the case of cross-border tastes such as Ahmed Yerima’s – ten thousand dollars, you are free to rape a child to death.

“This, surely cannot pretend to represent the will of a people who care. Once you re-define female adulthood as marital status, all subsequent protection bills for the girl-child are worthless, cynical.”

Mr. Soyinka called on Nigerians to learn from the heroes of June 12.

“Few people have done more for the cause of liberation than the hero of this day. M.K.O. Abiola was an open polygamist,” he said.

“None of his wives was ever found to be below the only age of consent that is now needlessly under contention – the scientific. We cannot substitute science and observation for any spurious alibis that sacrifice the child to private lust.”

Workers’ salaries: APC should stop being shameless – Ekiti Government

Ekiti State government has described as shameful, the persistent claim by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State that the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose was deceiving workers with the verification exercise, saying the party should stop acting shamelessly.

Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, who reacted to the APC’s claim in a statement
issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, said over 1,000 fake workers have already been discovered on the payroll that ought not to be receiving
salary.

He said; “over 250 workers that are already dead have been receiving salary through the e-payment system introduced and contracted to a
Lagos based company by the immediate past APC government.”

The governor’s aide, who urged the APC to first remove the timber in its eyes before aspiring to remove the toothpicks in other people’s
eyes, said the party should prevail on its governors in neighbouring States to pay workers that are owed as much as right months salary.

He said; “We commenced workers verification exercise last month and we have kept faith with our covenant with the workers by paying the April salary of those already cleared.

“As at today, we have discovered more than 1,000 people that were receiving salary fraudulently, out of which over 250 are dead.

“The over 1,000 fake workers have now been deleted from the payroll and the exercise is still ongoing.”

On the claim by the APC that the State government received N22 billion from the federal government as refund for construction of federal
roads in the State, Olayinka said; “Only a demented mind would believe that a refund of N22 billion was made by the federal government on N11 billion road project.

“For instance, Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki Road on which they claimed federal government refunded N22 billion was awarded by the Engr Segun Oni
government for N7.4 billion. In 2013, the APC government of Dr Kayode Fayemi increased it to N11 billion, claiming the increment was to
ensure quick completion of the project.

“So, How could federal government have refunded N22 billion on a N11 billion road project?

“These people just love to tell lies, hoping that they can again lie their way into the hearts of Ekiti people, but the people already know them and their stock in trade.”

Plot to undermine Tinubu will be counter-productive – Northern Group warns APC

A northern group, Patriotic Northern Coalition for Justice, Peace and Equity has warned the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be wary of some members of the party plotting to undermine national leader and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu.

The national coordinator of the coalition, Alhaji Babangida Sule Jnr, in a chat with newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday, stated that Tinubu remained the bedrock of APC and that any plot against his interest would be counter-productive.

The group wondered why the North, which should be grateful to Tinubu for the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the polls, was trying to sideline him in the scheme of things.

Sule said: “Politicians are already strategising for 2019 and they will stop at nothing to achieve their aim. Some of them are in APC and we have uncovered that part of their aims is to undermine the party’s chieftain, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, because they see him as a stumbling block.

“But we the Patriotic Northern Coalition won’t allow them because we are still grateful to Tinubu for what he has done for the North in the 2015 general elections, particularly his efforts in the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We know that many people played crucial roles in the emergence of Buhari, but Tinubu tops them all.

“Personally, I know of the many times he came to Kaduna to meet with Buhari and assured him that he would do all he could to support him and ensure his victory.

“I know all these things because I was part of the groups that met with him on several occasions, including some APC governors. Again, in order to ensure Buhari’s victory at the primaries, he used his influence to move the convention from Abuja to Lagos.

“We know what happened after that and at the final election. So, we won’t allow anybody or group of persons to plan anything against his interest in APC. Besides, such plot will be counter-productive because Tinubu is an influential APC chieftain that commands respect in his region and some other regions.

“Moreover, any crisis in the APC today will be harmful to the nation because APC is the ruling party and whatever affects it can easily impact negatively on the nation,” he said.

Sule condemned moves by some people to form a caucus in APC just like what happened in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) then.

He also warned the APC and its leadership not to underrate the PDP.

The group further called on Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic background or religion to support the current administration.
