Supreme Court affirms Rauf Aregbesola as Osun state governor
A seven man panel of judges in the Supreme court led by Justice John Fabiyi, ruled that Aregbesola was dully elected and is not found guilty of any election malpractice.
Man disguises as woman to kidnap pupils
The Abia State Police Command has paraded one Uzoma Ugwumadu, who, disguised as a woman, allegedly attempted to kidnap some primary school pupils from Osusu Amukwa Community Primary School in Aba.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshak Habila, who paraded the suspect along other criminals at the Police Officers Mess, Umuahia, said other members of the syndicate were still at large.
Habila said the suspect had disguised himself as a lady wearing blouse and a breast-like foam and led four school children away when he was intercepted by members of the village vigilance group.
The state police boss said other members of the syndicate, who were in a waiting bus with strange registration number, parked along New Umuahia Road Aba, zoomed off in their vehicle immediately the vigilance group and teachers raised the alarm.
Habila added that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing bandits.
However, the suspect in an interview denied the allegations, claiming that he was only trying to assist the pupils when he was arrested.
Ugwumadu explained that his enemies, who were jealous of his progress, were behind his ordeals, expressing confidence that God would fight his cause.
The police boss also said that efforts were being intensified to track down suspected robbers who held one Uwaoma Nwanmuo hostage in his house at Abala Umuotu village, Obingwa on March 9.
He said that police stormed the venue of the incident following a distress call and engaged the hoodlums in exchange of gun fire which forced them to flee with bullet wounds.
Habila appealed to members of the public to provide police with any useful information that could help in tracking down the fleeing robbers.
Paraded also was one Jeremiah Emmanuel from Onicha in Ebonyi State, who was arrested at Umuode area of Aba while allegedly attempting to rob a passers-by.
Similarly, two robbery suspects, Chigozie Nwaobilor (34) from Obingwa; and Ngozi Nduka (25) from Ntigha Uzo were also paraded by the police.
The suspects, according to police, were arrested following a tip-off and upon interrogation, confessed to belonging to a gang of armed robbers, who for the past two years, operated along Ovom Village/No man’s land axis of Aba.
Police also said investigations were on toward apprehending the kidnappers of a two-year-old boy, Chimsimdiri Obilor.
The police said the mother of the victim reported that one Chidube visited her neighbour, Eberechukwu Eze, and allegedly stole the boy.
Police added that when the said neighbour was confronted by the mother of the victim, she (the neighbour) drank battery acid.
The CP added that one Chinedu Onyiriofor, who allegedly introduced the fleeing suspects to Eberechukwu had been arrested for interrogation.

Man sends thugs to pour acid on ex-wife
One Ajayi Olatunbosun has been arrested by the police for allegedly hiring thugs to pour acid on his ex-wife, Bamidele Otakiti, in her shop on Adejobi Street in the Ajasa Command area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro gathered that all had been well between the couple since they moved to Lagos in 2005 until a few months ago when a disagreement soured their relationship.
The quarrel was said to have led to their separation in February, 2015.
It was learnt that the suspect, prior to the divorce, had on several occasions accused Otakiti of adultery.
Our correspondent gathered that despite his discontent with the alleged act, the 47-year-old commercial motorcycle rider (okada rider) had pleaded with the woman not to divorce him.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the two-man assailant team had come to Otakiti’s shop on April 21 at about 7.30pm, with a substance which later tested positive for acid. She was reportedly trying to give them change for some items they had bought when they poured the substance on her.
The attackers allegedly told the woman that they were sent by her ex-husband before they fled the area.
She was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital, from where she was referred to the General Hospital, Ile Epo, for intensive care.
Olatunbosun, who lives on Adetoun Street, Abule-Egba, was apprehended after his alleged involvement in the incident, which was reported at the Meiran Police Station.
A police source told our correspondent that the Ifewara, Osun State, indigene initially denied the allegation, but later owned up after being thoroughly quizzed.
The source said, “He initially denied hiring the thugs. But after a comprehensive interrogation, he confessed, saying the woman had been flaunting her beauty and committing adultery. He is giving us useful information to track the fleeing suspects.”
Olatunbosun was brought before an Ojokoro Magistrate’s Court on two counts of assault preferred against him by a police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi.
The charges read, “That you, Ajayi Olatunbosun, 42, and two others now at large, on April 21, 2015, at about 7.30pm on Adejobi Street, Ajasa Command, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony to wit: grievous harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mrs. O.A. Olayinka, a senior magistrate, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Group asks court to stop Buhari’s inauguration
A group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, has instituted a fresh suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to stop the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, from swearing the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday.
The suit filed on Tuesday is also seeking an order nullifying the certificate of return issued to Buhari by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The plaintiff hinged the suit on the allegation that Buhari did not qualify to contest the presidential election on the grounds that he gave false information about his academic qualification to INEC.
Between January and February 2015 there were about 10 cases instituted by various plaintiffs challenging Buhari’s eligibility to stand for the poll on the grounds of his academic qualification controversy. But after he won, the cases were withdrawn.
In the fresh suit filed by its lawyer, Mr. Philip Ekpo, the group alleged that Buhari did not meet the qualification enshrined in the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act to stand for the March 28, 2015 presidential election.
Buhari, INEC, the CJN are the 1st to the 3rd respondents in the suit respectively.
The plaintiff is seeking an order of interim injunction restraining the CJN “or any person acting in his capacity” from swearing in Buhari as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2015 or any other date thereof pending the determination of the motion on notice.
The plaintiff seeks among other orders, “A declaration that the 3rd defendant be stopped from swearing in the 1st defendant as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as the issue of perjury involving the 1st defendant has not been resolved.
“An order restraining the 3rd defendant or any person appointed for such purpose from swearing in the 1st defendant as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2015 or any future dates whatsoever for giving false information to the 2nd respondent on oath.
“An order annulling the Certificate of Return given to the 1st defendant by the 2nd defendant.”
The grounds canvassed by the plaintiff read, “The 1st respondent (Buhari) gave false information in the affidavit he presented to the 2nd respondent (INEC) and on the strength of which he contested and purportedly won the presidential election which was conducted by the 2nd respondent on March 28, 2015.
“The 1st respondent deposed to an affidavit dated November 24, 2014 that his West African School Leaving Certificate is in the custody of the Secretary to the Military Board.
“The Nigerian Army on January 20, 2015, said that in the personal file of the 1st respondent with the Nigerian Army, they do not have the original copy of his West African School Leaving Certificate nor does the Nigerian Army have the Certified True Copy of his WASC results neither do they have a photocopy of the said result.
“The 1st respondent has not met the qualifications enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act, Cap E6, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2010 (as amended) to have contested the position of President of Nigeria at the 2015 general elections.
“That the authority conferred by Section 140 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on the 3rd respondent to administer oath of office to any person who will occupy the office of the President of Nigeria cannot be exercised in respect of the 1st respondent who has not fulfilled the requirements of the same constitution and the Electoral Act as it relates to his eligibility to occupy the office of President of Nigeria.”
The case has not been assigned to any judge.

DON’T BE SURPRISED SEEING ME WITH BIBLE—STELLA DAMASUS
Stella Damasus is one star in Nollywood that is now seen as controversial. Her relationship with Daniel Ademinokan has not even helped matters. Even though she has claimed that what is between them is purely business, her critics have found it very difficult to believe.
Few days ago, she was at the pool side with the Bible, which she admitted raised eyebrows of those around her.
Stella narrated the experience and later explained the motive behind her action. She later advised people not to be surprised anymore when they see her often with the Bible.
"Some people looked at me funny at the pool about three days ago. They kept starring at me and talking among themselves. I found out that they were almost stunned that someone will bring a BIBLE to the poolside to relax.
So I thought to myself ‘if people can take magazines, novels and self help books to read and relax at the pool why can't I take my Bible?’
“Trust me, I loved every minute of it and I started raising my hand from time to time whenever a verse hit me. At that point I really didn't care what they had to say and I still don't.
“So don't be surprised if you see me carrying my bible with me everywhere I go. If handbags, purses, sunglasses, accessories and different things can be trendy, then I choose my bible to be my new trend.
“If you agree with me and you are not ashamed to carry your Bible around, then take your Bible to the least likely place and take a picture of yourself. Post the picture on your social media and ask your friends and followers to do the same.
“Let's make the Bible trendy too and most importantly, let us read it as we go along. This will be fun,” she said.

EXCLUSIVE: I HAVEN’T HAD SEX FOR 3 YEARS—YORUBA ACTRESS, OMOTUNDE OGUNDIMU
Remember the Yoruba actress, Omotunde Ogundimu, who was down with fibroid some months and had to undergo surgery to remove it? Well, the lovely actress has since bounced back and is even looking full of life.
She was at an event held recently in Lagos, where Nigeriafilms.com crossed her for some questions.
How have you been since the surgery?
I am okay as you can see except that I am not all that robust anymore. I am now slim but I like it.
Do you wish to go on the big side again?
Well, I liked it then but people say I’m prettier than now. I don’t know why, I am aging fast, but I like it the way I am now because I am a bit light, not that heavy. Years ago, when I want to wear clothes, I am always wondering about my tummy, but now, I am free.
During the trying period, did you fear death?
No, I was never afraid of it. I can’t even think about that. If I had to think like that, then I am wicked. It is three years now that I lost my husband. If I had to think like that, who is going to take care of my children? They need me and all through those times, they were with me, they encouraged me, talked to me saying, ‘mum, you are going to be okay, just stay cool, God is going to heal you and all that.’ Here I am today. I wasn’t thinking about death then and besides, I am too young to die.
Was it true that you needed more money after the surgery?
Hmm, thank God you have seen me. If you were here last week, I was putting on a very nice gown and a lot of people were like, thank God you are now looking good and better. But it’s just that I have not been going to events like that. I wanted to add more weight before stepping out again, but I found out that it was not about gaining the weight, but the way you carry yourself.
How many kids do you have and do you have to remarry?
My first child is going to be 18 in July, the second child will be 16 in June and the third turned 11 in March. On the marriage issue, if God says yes, sure, I will go ahead and remarry but if God says okay o, Motunde O, there is no space for husband again, then I will stay.
But don’t you feel any urge for sex?
The sexual part of it, hmm, I have been without sex for the past three years, so, it is nothing to me, that’s the truth. I have been without it for the past three years.
Do you mean men don’t disturb you?
People come to disturb me but I just need to avoid them. You know these men out there, it is either they are coming to you because you have something to give them or they just want to have a taste of you and then brag that ‘mehn, you see that actress, I am her boyfriend, we are together and all sorts.’
What are you working in now?
I have two jobs at hand now. The reason why I have not gone to location is that I don’t have enough money. I need enough money to produce. I don’t want to produce a movie of low quality. I want a standard movie; a film I can take to the market and people will say ‘yes, you’ve really done well’. Very soon, I will hit the location.
Why do you do more of Yoruba films than English?
I was recently on location for an English soap opera, though I can’t remember the name now. I do English movies too because I can speak good English.

Nigerian Students warn Zuma to stay away from Nigeria on Buhari’s Inauguration Day
Nigerian students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students has warned Jacob Zuma, the South Africa President not to come to Nigeria for the inauguration of President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari following what they described as his poor handling of the xenophobic attacks on some Africans including Nigerians in his country in April.
According to the students body, the failure of the South African President to apologize to Nigerians after the attacks is distasteful. The students expressed their anger in a statement signed by its President, Tijani Usman.
The statement in part reads:
“We wish to advise the South African President (Jacob Zuma) to rather stay at home and address burning issues, rather than embarking on a visit that is the least desirable.
The South African President’s failure to apologise to Nigeria for the losses the country and our citizens incurred during the xenophobic attacks on foreigners leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
There is therefore, no point felicitating with a people who clearly do not matter much to you. President Zuma’s visit will only amount to pretence.”
