Novak Djokovic Wins Wimbledon Title, Beating Roger Federer

For the second straight year, Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final, this time by a score of 7-6 (1), 6-7 (10), 6-4, 6-3 to win his third title at Wimbledon.
Djokovic has had little problem playing the role of the villain, as long as it has meant winning a Wimbledon championship. He did so a year ago when most of Centre Court was backing Federer, emerging victorious in a five-set thriller.

Bird Flu: Nigeria destroys 1.4 million chickens

More than 1.4 million birds were destroyed across Nigeria to stamp out bird influenza that hit poultry farms early this year, according to Mohammed Ahmed, the Executive Director, National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom.
Mr. Ahmed told the News Agency of Nigeria in Vom on Sunday that 18 states were affected by the flu whose last case was reported on May 28.

Buhari refuses to meet with Saraki

President Muhammadu Buhari has resisted fresh moves by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, to formally meet with him, SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt.
An official in the Presidency who confided in one of our correspondents on Saturday said the President and the Senate President had only met once since the latter’s emergence as the leader of the senate.
The official said all efforts by Saraki to have another meeting with the president, after the party’s National Executive Council meeting penultimate Friday, were rebuffed by Buhari.

Lawyers Query Conferment Of SAN On Wole Olanipekun’s Son

The LPPC  approved Dr. Oladapo Olumide Olanipekun along with 20 others for formal investiture as SAN, the highest rank for practicing Nigerian attorneys.
In separate interviews with SaharaReporters, three Nigerian lawyers alleged that the LPPC erred in awarding the SAN rank to Olabode, whose father, Wole Olanipekun, is one of Nigeria’s most prominent attorneys. The older Olanipekun was a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Media reports say that the ambassadors were recalled as part of efforts to reposition the country’s foreign policies.

Kogi Judge, Justice Obayomi released, after 34 days in kidnappers’ den

It was not until Saturday, June 27, that the Kogi State High Court judge, Justice Samuel Obayomi, kidnapped by gunmen on May 25, could breath the air of freedom. By then, he has spent 34 days in his abductors’ custody.
According to Vanguard, the state Commissioner for Police,  Ogunjemilusi, who confirmed his release, said the judge was released in the night between 10:00 and 11:30.
