33-yr-old man commits suicide in Ondo over job loss

The decomposing body of a 33-year-old man, Gbenga Ogundana, has been discovered by Police detectives in Akure, Ondo State capital, after he reportedly committed suicide over loss of his job.

Vanguard gathered that the body was discovered in his rented apartment located at Orisunmbare Street, Cultural Centre, Akure, four days after he allegedly poisoned himself.

Vanguard was informed that neighbours of the deceased had earlier reported to his elder brother, Segun, that the whereabouts of his brother was unknown.

Steve Anowa(35), who hails from Njikoka Local Government Area in Anambra State, who is presently cooling his heels with the police in Akwa Ibom State, has related how he butchered 31-year-old Daniel Bassey Solomon, the brother of his girlfriend at his one-room apartment in Itu Street, Uyo, the state capital.

Solomon hailed from Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. His killer, who is in the habit of changing residences, had just packed from Uruan where he met and started dating Solomon’s sister, about two years ago.

Anowa, who has no known means of livelihood, but lives a showy lifestyle, confessed that he invited the deceased to his home after he refused to repay the N750,000 he allegedly used to set up a barbing saloon for him (Solomon).

The deceased came to know him through his sister, which was why he funded his barbing saloon. In fact, the suspect had just relocated to Itu Street with just a bed and mattress when the wacky incident occurred.

The culprit confessed to have committed the act after inviting his friend, Solomon, to his house. Unknown to Solomon, who dozed off after gulping the bottle of beer, the suspect had spiked the drink.

Fernanda Cruz, who is suspected of being schizophrenic, suffocated her three-month-old brother and days later smothered her three-year-old sibling with a pillow.

But police did not realize she was the killer until weeks later when she took pills in an attempt to overdose and ended up in hospital, where she confessed to what she had done.

A young Mother claims she suffered burns to 98 per cent of her body after she was advised to take a bath with BLEACH in it.

Sarah Cole was left with horrific open sores and came close to death after getting into a hot bath in which she had placed a cup of bleach.

The 29 year old mother of three then soaked her entire body in the solution, following advice from a so-called skin specialist on ways to combat eczema.

Although there was no initial pain, Ms Cole, from Dapto in Australia, was left in agony two days later and rushed to hospital – where she would stay for a month in intensive care

She told the Australian Daily Telegraph, “My poor parents were pretty much planning my funeral.”

Ms Cole had originally gone with her own mother to seek help for her skin condition.

Police quiz Ekiti PDP Chairman over dud cheque

The Police in Ekiti State have quizzed the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Chief Idowu Faleye, in connection with the dud cheque issued to pay for the rent of the state secretariat in Ado Ekiti.

He was interrogated by the police from the Special Fraud Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, following a petition by the landlord, Chief Ropo Adesanya, to the Commissioner of Police, Etop James.

The PDP in the state received a quit notice from the landlord, asking it to vacate the state party secretariat in Ado Ekiti for failure to pay its rent.

The landlord, a two-term state PDP chairman and now a member of the All Progressives Congress, was aggrieved that the ruling party in the state allegedly issued him a dud cheque for the rent.

Adesanya, who was the PDP chairman for eight years during which Governor Ayodele Fayose won the 2003 governorship election, is demanding N1.5m owed as rent.

APC leaders angry as Buhari appoints more northerners

There was an outrage in the ruling All Progressives Congress on Thursday over the announcement of new appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Leaders of the APC, who spoke to The PUNCH, complained that the appointments tilted in favour of the North and said the party must move fast to cope with the backlash of expected rumblings in the polity.

“The President does not consult before making most of these appointments and I can tell you that Nigerians are going to term the party and the President as a northern party and the President of Northern Nigeria,” a leader of the party said to one of our correspondents late on Tuesday.

Buhari, according to a statement by his Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Thursday approved the appointment of Babachir David Lawal from Adamawa State as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

We hid cocaine in Arik flight meals – Attendant’s accomplice

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday said it had apprehended another employee of Arik Air, Ikechukwu Chibuzor Oliver, for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of 20kg cocaine to London on Monday.

According to the NDLEA, Oliver had confessed to the crime and had revealed that he charged N400,000 for each of the three bags containing the substance.

Oliver, Arik Air’s employee in the catering department, was said to have assisted Chika Egwu Udensi to get the cocaine onboard the London-bound Flight W3101 on which Udensi arrived in the UK on Monday night.
