Unveiling Of Oliseh: Nigerians In South Africa Hail NFF

Some Nigerians living in South Africa have commended the Nigeria Football Federation for unveiling, Sunday Oliseh, as new Super Eagles coach.

The President of the Nigerian Union, South Africa, Ikechukwu Anyene, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Pretoria, South Africa, on Thursday that Oliseh's choice was a welcome development.

“ Nigerians in South Africa are happy with the choice of Sunday Oliseh as the new Super Eagles coach.

“As a former player, he has seen it all and has the experience to lead the Eagles to greater heights.

“I believe Oliseh will bring a new lease of life to the national team,’’ he said.

Adetola Olubajo, Secretary of the Nigeria Union, South Africa, said Oliseh had the potential to revive the fortunes of the Super Eagles.

“Oliseh has played for big clubs in Europe and given the fact that he attended several coaching courses, I think he will do well.

“I also wish to commend the NFF for unveiling him so that he can go to work.

“The Super Eagles have so many assignments waiting for them and I do not think that time is on their side.

“Nigerians living in South Africa want to see the Eagles back to winning ways. Nigeria is blessed with abundant football stars.

“ This is the time to harness these talents and use them,’’ he said.

Henry Umogbai, Secretary, Nigeria Union, Gauteng Province of South Africa, said unveiling of Oliseh was a step in the right direction.

Umogbai said Oliseh had the experience to build a formidable team given abundant talents in the country.

He urged the NFF to give the new Eagles coach the necessary support to accomplish the task ahead.

Emeka Ezinteje, a Nigerian businessman based in Johannesburg, said that the unveiling of Oliseh showed the determination of the NFF to get the Eagles back to business.

“ Nigerians want the Eagles to conquer Africa as they did in the past. I believe that Oliseh has the capacity and potential to form a winning team in his new role as the coach of the team,’’ he said.

Ezinteje urged Nigerians to support the new coach to achieve good results with the Eagles to put smiles on the faces of football fans in the country.

Vincent Onyema, President, Abia Progressives Union in South Africa, also praised the unveiling of Oliseh, and urged the new coach to use players who were fit for matches.

Onyema said that frequent clashes between the NFF and former coach Keshi did not help the national team.

“ Nigerians in South Africa want to see a brand new Super Eagles. We hope that Oliseh`s appointment and unveiling will bring a new football culture in the country.
“We pray for him to succeed and take Nigerian football to greater heights,’’ he said.

US Visit: Obama To Break Tradition For PMB

In demonstration of his readiness to forge closer ties with Nigeria, US President Barack Obama will be breaking his administration’s tradition when President Muhammadu Buhari arrives in Washington D.C. on a state visit on Monday next week.

The American leader will host President Buhari as his personal guest at the Blair House, the official guest house of the American president right opposite the White House, for three days.

This is a clear departure from the American government’s attitude to visiting heads of state, particularly Nigerian leaders.

It is also a demonstration of Obama’s admiration of President Buhari and a thumbs-up for the Nigerian leader’s acclaimed frugal lifestyle and disdain for ostentation.

The decision to host President Buhari in the official guest house of the US president will not only cut down the cost of the trip, but also allow time for informal discussions by both leaders.

Buhari is said to have pegged his entourage at 32, a clear departure from the immediate past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan who was once reported to have embarked on a two-day trip with a team of about 100 persons.

During official visits to Washington D.C. while in office, Jonathan and his entourage usually stayed at the Westin Grand Hotel. At other times, he booked Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and the Pierre Hotel.

During the coming visit, the two leaders will exchange ‘wish lists’. These will contain the requests of both leaders from each other, as well as firm pledges on how they plan to come to each other’s aid.

It was learnt that top on the US government’s pledges is greater assistance in the fight against terrorism. In return, the US government wants Nigeria to show greater commitment to the war on corruption, particularly transparency in public service.

Applicant Steals N50,000 From School Proprietor’s Safe During Interview

A light-fingered job applicant blew his chances of a job he applied for after he was caught with the school proprietor’s missing N50,000.

The incident occurred Tuesday in Bwari Area Council at a school affiliated to a pentecostal church whose general overseer doubles as the school proprietor.

LEADERSHIP learnt that the applicant, a Benue indigene, whose name was given as David, had earlier worked as security man for the school but voluntarily resigned shortly before the last general election and went back to his state. Before leaving the security job he had introduced one of his fellow townsman to the school, who replaced him on the job.

The applicant returned to Abuja on Monday and went straight to the school to see if his job could be given back to him. He met with the school’s principal who quickly told him that the brother that replaced him performed his duty better and so they had no intention of taking the job from him. She however advised him to see the proprietor who was not around at the moment.

When the proprietor arrived at the school, Dave as he was called, who was squatting in the security house with the school’s security man was asked to go and see her. In the course of interview Dave noticed the safe where the proprietor kept her money.

A source in the school said they could not tell the exact time the applicant went into the proprietor’s office and stole the N50,000 from her safe. The proprietor returned to her office after going to inspector on-going work at the site of the school’s annex.

Shortly after she entered her office, she noticed that the money had been stolen and so she raised the alarm. All the staff were summoned to the proprietor’s office and informed about the missing money. Immediately, search for the money commenced. every office was searched and the bags and briefcases of the teachers were also searched.

The school’s authority eventually decided to take the search to the security house where the applicant also had his travelling bag. The security man who was combing the room, picked up Dave’s bag and opened it and to the amazement of everyone, the N50,000 fell out of the bag.
The proprietor who felt shocked but relieved that the money had been recovered immediately ordered the applicant out of the school’s premises.

The principal of the school who spoke with LEADERSHIP under condition of anonymity said the proprietor was advised to report the applicant to the police but decided against it saying she did not want the young man to languish in jail.

Heartbroken father relives agonising moment his truck hit wall crushing young son to death

A heartbroken father has relived the moment a truck he was driving hit a wall which then collapsed, crushing his 17-month-old son.

Little Mohammed Yaseen, also known as Amaan, suffered catastrophic head injuries as a result of the bricks falling on him and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His father Imran said he had been moving the Mitsibushi low loader to another address in the same street where he and his family lived in Stechford on February 16 this year.

He told an inquest at Birmingham Coroner’s Court that he had put the handbrake of the lorry on – but it had rolled forward and hit the wall.

Mr Yaseen said he did not know at the time that any of his family were near the truck, reports the Mail.

He told the inquest: “I used the hand brake but the truck just rolled forward and hit the wall.

"I was not aware beforehand that any of the family were going to be watching.”

Asked by the coroner whether there was anything different he could have done to avoid the tragedy he said; “I could have been aware he was nearby. I did not see him.”

But Police Constable Gurvinder Khosa said that he was sure that the accident had been caused by Mr Yaseen.

PC Khosa said: “It was driver error. As he was manoeuvring the vehicle he failed to appreciate it had a over hang which struck the wall.”

Police Sergeant Adam Green said papers had been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service in relation to a possible prosecution.

He said: “We recommended no further action be taken. It was not deemed to be in the public interest to pursue the matter any further.”

Birmingham Coroner Louise Hunt said the young boy had died as a result of massive head injuries and multiple internal injuries and fractures.

She said: “Mohammed was standing near to a wall at 191 Queens Road at about 5pm when the Mitsibushi low loader recovery vehicle rolled forward on to the wall. Part of the wall hit the deceased who suffered head and body injuries.

“He was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

She recorded that he died as a result of a road traffic collision.

Speaking after the tragic death Mohammed’s family described the youngster a “lovely little boy who brought joy and happiness”.

The statement said: “These parents are distraught and shocked.

“Amaan was a lovely little boy, who brought with him a lot of joy and happiness for the entire family – particularly his parents – and he will be deeply missed.”

Insp Paul Bennett, of the West Midlands Police collision investigation unit, said: “This was a tragic incident.”

'I murdered my best friend - then went to her funeral so police wouldn't suspect me'

A woman who served 21 years in prison after murdering her best friend has revealed how she went to her funeral so she would not be suspected.

Karen Severson murdered her childhood best friend Michelle 'Missy' Avila with accomplice Laura Doyle, slashed her hair off and hid her body in a forest river.

Now 47 the killer, who was 22 at the time, has spoken frankly about the savage attack and revealed how she turned from, protector to persecutor.

She said she did not intend to kill Missy, who she had known since she was seven, and used to stick up for her until they drifted apart. She said she was only planning to bully her when things got out of hand.

She said: "I only meant to torment Missy. "Looking back, I was jealous of Missy."

Describing the first time she met her victim when they were aged seven, she said: "Missy was out in the street looking for her lost cat. "She was a sweet-looking girl with long auburn hair and green eyes. I helped her look for it. She had just moved into the street and she was my new neighbour."

She went on: "We were very similar at that age. We loved dressing up out Barbies and playing in the sunshine.

But she said things were not always easy for Miss Avila.

"Missy would get picked on a lot at school," she said. "I don't know why, maybe people were jealous of her pretty looks. But I stood up for her. She called me her bodyguard after that."

She said as the girls got older they grew apart and aged 14, Severson fell pregnant.

She said she thinks this led to her and her former friend drifting apart, especially when she dropped out of school to look after her baby.

She said: "Once I would have defended her. But now I joined in the cruelty."

Doyle claimed she saw Missy kissing her boyfriend and the pair confronted her.

On October Doyle arranged to meet Missy at Colby Canyon in Angeles National Park.

Severson said Doyle picked her victim up in her car and drove to the woods.

At Colby Canyon, they headed through the forest to the stream.

Severson said: "Missy probably thought it would be like old times.

"But Laura went mad, screaming at her."

The victim's body was found in Angeles National Park in California, USA, by hikers in October 1985, three days after she was reported missing.

Her hair had been slashed off. She was facedown in a stream and a 100lb log prevented her from moving.

After Missy's body was found the pair consoled her family, even attending her funeral. But a tip off from a friend they had confided in saw them being jailed.

"I felt like I had an obligation to Missy's family after what I did.

"As Missy's mother grieved, I consoled her. I felt like I had an obligation to Missy's family after what I did.

"I wanted to look after them."

But she admitted she also had ulterior motives for 'helping'.

She said: "I also wanted to know how the police investigation was going.

"I wanted to know who the suspects were and what evidence they'd found."

Severson and her co-defendant who was also 22, were convicted of second-degree murder at Pasadena Superior Court in March 1990.

They were both sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison and were released in 2011

Severson, who is not being paid for speaking out, said after more than two years in California Institution for Women in Corona, she was ashamed of her actions.

She now tours schools and encourages young people not to act like she did.

She said: "I don't want bullies to do what I did. I want them to stop before that happens."

Severson, who now works in telesales and has released an e-book memoir It's My Life I Lived It about the murder, said: "I want to save other people from being bullied and doing the bullying, like I was."

KENYAN WOMEN SHOULD LEAVE NIGERIAN MEN, THEY ARE CHEAT - KENYAN WRITER FIRES

With the high rate at which accusing fingers are been pointed at some Nigerian men over their overzealous lifestyle of defrauding women while proclaiming fake love for them might gradually hinder the good Nigerian men from marrying a foreigner.

This is coming after Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, recently warned that women should be careful of Nigerian men because they can lie for the whole of Africa and they are not to be trusted.

While many are trying to sleep over the actress statement, a Kenyan, writer, has also lashed Nigerian men with claims that they are conmen.

According to her, “Stay away from Nigerian men! All Nigerian men are conmen. Repeat after me; “All Nigerian men are conmen”. There are no exceptions here. When you see a Nigerian man, run the other way. Don’t stop to invoke the name of Jesus or pray. Just take cover.”

The angered writer stated that she was just confused on what her fellow Kenyan women see in Nigerian men that they continue to spend resources just to have them and later begin to weep after the relationship has gone soar.
